As The Miami Herald reported, Tony Shalhoub popped into Panther Coffee late last week in the company of Magic City Farm queenpin Tamara Hendershot. Shalhoub, who’s perhaps best known as the lead in the USA Network’s Monk (most watched cable drama ever), has also been in quite a few films over the years, including a couple from the Coen Brothers (Barton Fink and The Man Who Wasn’t There), as well as all three in Robert Rodriquez’s Spy Kids franchise, so it’s no real surprise to find out he’s in town shooting another big screen farce.
In this case Shalhoub is appearing alongside Mark Walhberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain, which is based on a true Miami story and, say advance notices, is kinda Coen-like its own self. No word on whether the merrily mad “Monk” will be sticking around for awhile, but he did dig Panther’s cold brew, not to mention the semi-recent wrap local roustabout Douglas “Hox” Hoekzema gave Wynwood’s prime hangout. In fact, the man made a point of saying so himself.
